Why DIP stock matters
The DIP reading is the only physical check of how much fuel is really in your underground tanks. If the DIP stock and the book stock (opening + receipts − sales) drift apart, you have a leak, a meter problem, an evaporation loss or a theft. Most pumps write the DIP in a diary and convert it to litres from a printed chart, so the comparison is done rarely, if at all.
How DIP entry works in Petronix
- Upload the calibration chart once. Add each tank with its capacity and upload the DIP chart supplied for that tank. Charts in centimetres or millimetres are both accepted.
- Enter the daily DIP. A staff member enters the DIP reading for each tank from the phone. Readings can be entered in cm or mm with a switch; Petronix stores them consistently.
- Litres are calculated for you. The reading is looked up on the chart (with optional rounding up to the next chart step), and the tank volume in litres is shown instantly.
- Compare with book stock. Petronix adds fuel receipts and subtracts approved DU sheet sales since the DIP to give point-in-time stock for every tank.
Tank stock features
- Live stock per tank – current stock moves with every approved DU sheet and fuel purchase.
- Purchases split across tanks – one invoice can be decanted into several tanks; each tank is credited with its share.
- Decantation date – receipts count on the date the fuel was actually decanted, which keeps DIP and reports accurate when the tanker arrives late at night.
- Safety checks – a meter reading or stock figure that would exceed tank capacity is rejected, and stock is never deducted twice for the same sale.
- Daily DIP reminder – the owner’s home screen shows a “DIP daily required” alert until today’s DIP is entered.
- Stock reports – opening, receipts, sales, closing and DIP variance by tank and fuel, exportable to PDF and Excel.
Purchases, density and drivers
Record every fuel purchase invoice with quantity, density, vehicle and driver details, rate, VAT and total. Petronix pre-fills the last purchase for each fuel so entry takes seconds, and a driver report shows every load received. Purchase VAT feeds directly into your VAT reports.
From DIP to DSR
DIP readings, receipts and sales together make up the stock part of the daily stock and sales register (DSR / DSSR). Petronix prints it in the layout your oil company uses, so it can be handed to the sales officer or your accountant without re-writing it by hand.

Frequently asked questions
Can I enter DIP in millimetres?
Yes. Both DIP entry and chart upload accept cm or mm.
What if I do not have my calibration chart in digital form?
Share the printed chart with our team and we will help you load it during setup.
Does tank stock update automatically?
Yes. Approved DU sheets reduce stock and fuel purchases add to it, tank by tank.
What happens if a tanker is decanted the next day?
Enter the decantation date on the purchase. Reports and DIP stock count the receipt on that date.
